Tottenham Hotspur signed Sergio Reguilón from Real Madrid in 2020, after his impressive spell on loan at Sevilla during the 2019/20 season, where he won the Europa League.
José Mourinho was then in charge of Spurs when the left-back arrived at the north London club. The Portuguese tactician is currently managing AS Roma, who will face Sevilla in the Europa League final later today.
AS asked the Tottenham player to preview the midweek European final. He stated winning the competition with the La Liga side in 2020 was one of the special moments of his career.
Despite the 26-year-old’s past connection with Mourinho, he would prefer the Andalusian club to win the final on Wednesday.
“Although Sevilla have something special with the Europa League, I think it will be a difficult final,” he said.
“Mourinho’s teams are always hard at work and compete very well in this type of match. I am very fond of Mourinho from our time at Tottenham, but it would be nice to see Sevilla win the title again.”
The Spain international has been on loan at Atlético Madrid since last summer and will have to return to Tottenham after this season. He has two years left on his deal at Spurs. AS asked him about the possibility of returning to Sevilla.
“At Sevilla, I spent a spectacular year. We had a terrific dressing room, a spectacular group, a top coach… I also felt and still feel very loved by Sevilla. I have returned to Seville once and they have always shown me a lot of affection,” Reguilón explained.
“Return to the club one day? Sevilla is a very special club for me, but the truth is that I’m not thinking about the future right now.”
