Manchester City may not be that interested in William Carvalho from Sporting CP after all.

Although recent claims from the Portuguese press said Pep Guardiola would be keen on the player, especially after his brother Pere started working as the midfielder’s agent, newspaper Diário de Notícias disagrees with it today.

As the newspaper has a story saying Carvalho is wanted by French side Lille, they give a little answer to these recent links.

CapturarAccording to Diário de Notícias, Manchester City have never made an approach for the player. They say that although Pere Guardiola has a good relationship with English clubs, no contacts with Premier League sides were made in the past few weeks.

The newspaper also mentions a €28m bid from West Brom made in January, besides approaches from Everton and Sunderland in the winter window.

Since the Portuguese papers started saying Pere Guardiola would help City to sign Carvalho, we said it sounded pretty strange. Pep was never heavily linked to the midfielder, and there’s no sense for Pere to work exclusively for his brother.

Diário de Notícias seems to confirm it now.
