Manchester United offer €55m for Marco Asensio – shout an increasing number of reports from Spain.

Of course, it would be a laughable offer right now.

Asensio has been highly valued at Real Madrid for a while, but his star has risen so high in recent weeks that his value, in the current market, would be off into the stratosphere.

And that’s not to mention that Asensio has no reason to leave Real Madrid, with the 21 year old clearly valued by Zidane Zidane and already a darling of the club’s fans.

A little digging shows that the story originated with Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo. It’s dressed up as a Jose Mourinho thing, but, as largely ignored by the subsequent spread of copies, is something which happened in the past.

Mundo Deportivo say Manchester United too advantage of Alvaro Morata talks to throw in a €55m offer for Asensio. The offer was knocked back and that was that.

There’s no claims of an ongoing intention to sign the player from Manchester United, it’s all presented as something which happened earlier this summer and is now very much dead.
