Leeds United are currently second in the Championship table, level on points with third placed Burnley and two points behind leader Sheffield United.
The Whites are in contention to return to the Premier League, two years after their drop to the second division. This was when Andrea Radrizzani still owned Leeds United.
49ers Enterprises acquired a minority stake at Leeds before purchasing the remaining shares to seal the complete takeover in July 2023. A month before selling his stake at Elland Road, Radrizzani invested at Sampdoria.
Former Sampdoria midfielder Loris Boni is unhappy with the Serie B club’s growth under the current ownership. Sampdoria News have relayed his comments.
Boni used Radrizzani’s handling of Leeds after their relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season as an example to criticise the Italian businessman.
The former Leeds owner helped the Italian club avoid bankruptcy and Boni appreciates him for that. He then questioned the intentions behind certain operations carried out by Sampdoria under Radrizzani’s ownership.
“In the 2022/23 season, Leeds were relegated and sold by Mr. Radrizzani… In short, perhaps mindful of such a great failure, certain management errors and above all truly absurd human choices should not have been made,” he said.
“I think that arriving in Genoa was an appreciable gesture because a club was saved … but then?
“Amateur management with people who worked with themselves supported by agents who parked alleged players with a disarming technical background. In England the word resignation exists without anyone asking for it in the face of a failure.”
Sampdoria are currently 17th in the Serie B table and are level on points with 18th placed AC Reggiana 1919.
“Here we think only about the armchair and protecting our own salary… but if you don’t deliver, an owner should intervene before closing a company…” Boni explained.
“The players? They make me sad, I feel like I see a flock lost in the middle of the pitch without those dogs that guide their movements and bring the flock back in a single direction… I think that when you are with water up to your neck you should show off that self-esteem that is needed to try to get out of the quicksand.”
“And now? Now intervening drastically can only make things worse and announce an unheard-of relegation for the history of Sampdoria. I have no faith in this coach who transmits nothing to this gang, only they need to talk to each other and maybe punch each other a few times to compare and try to change their attitude. I think it’s the last chance to have hope…”
Not going as well as planned, then.
