It will be difficult for Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordano. He made these comments during Canale 8’s Ne Parliamo il Martedì, relayed by Tutto Napoli.
Prior to making claims about the striker not favouring a move to the Tyneside club in the next window, Giordano insisted Eddie Howe’s side have made a huge offer for the 23-year-old’s services.
According to the journalist, the Premier League side submitted a €100m bid for the Nigeria international.
“Osimhen is followed by half the world, and it is true that Newcastle showed €100m in January, but in my opinion, if the English club returns, the Nigerian will not go,” Giordano said.
“But then it is also necessary to check what Newcastle will do, what team they will do, what coach they will take on and what contractual offer they will present.”
On Tuesday, Corriere dello Sport suggested Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis wants as much as €120m after ignoring a €100m bid for the former Lille star in the last window.
Giordano has now backed it up and stressed the offer specifically came from Newcastle.
These claims seem wild, and it feels like a repeat of the Kalidou Koulibaly saga. The defender was wanted by several clubs in England and across Europe in the past and there were then reports of a €100m offer for the centre-back. A deal never took shape, and the Senegal international is still at the Naples club.
