Following his goal in the 1-0 win over Lecce, West Ham United’s Nikola Vlasic is the talk of the town in Italy, as he took his tally to three goals in five games for Torino.
We’ve already covered some of it, including Urbano Cairo, the Serie A side’s president, revealing that he had no idea who the Croatia international was before his manager and technical director signed him.
Still, he knows the West Ham player now, seeing as he is the star of the show at his club, and he made that clear in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
Asked about how well Vlasic had started the season, Cairo said: “He’s doing great. Not just because of the three goals in the last three games, but because he makes a contribution of solidity, balance, of remarkable quality. He’s tremendous.”
This praise will be exactly what Ivan Juric would have wanted back towards the end of last season, when Gazzetta, in a separate article on the West Ham man, explain he was ‘the first name’ the manager requested ‘during the evaluation to reinforce’ the squad.
Described as an ‘element of class and power’, the 24-year-old has hit the ground running in Italy, and will be hoping to continue this form throughout the campaign, which could bode well for his future.
After all, Torino have an option to buy him for €15m, and if he continues this way, there will be few arguments from their end about triggering it and sending the money over to West Ham.
