Federico Fernandez signed for Newcastle United in 2018 from Swansea City and left the club in the recently concluded summer transfer window.
The 33-year-old made just seven Premier League appearances last season, after making 24 during the previous campaign, and was largely out of the picture after Eddie Howe arrived as the new manager.
A summer exit clearly looked the best solution for all involved, and Fernandez has now sent his thanks to Newcastle for how they treated him and also for the way they allowed a transfer to happen with no cost attached.
Fernandez signed for Elche on a one year contract and his task will be helping them avoid relegation.
Quoted by AS, he thanked the Spanish side for taking a bet on him and then sent praise to the Magpies: “I also want to mention Newcastle, where I have been very comfortable and where they treated me wonderfully to respect my decision to leave. Everything was given in the end and I am very happy to be here with Elche. Now, to work because this has already started and we need to be good.”
Fernandez is yet to play a minute for his new club and is aware there’s a big task ahead of him, with Elche currently 18th out of 20 in La Liga. The club are yet to win a game after four matches, getting one draw and three defeats, and already have a goal difference of minus eight.
