Catalan newspaper Sport report Barcelona are ‘working against the clock’ to secure several exits and therefore make room in their squad for arrivals.
One of the players in question is of course Clement Lenglet, who spent last year on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs didn’t use their purchase clause, but there’s long been insistence in the Blaugrana media that there’s concrete interest in securing him.
For weeks there’s been reports of the two clubs being in negotiations, and at one point it was even claimed Tottenham were looking for a free transfer. That came just after Barcelona rescinded Samuel Umitit’s contract, and Spurs were hoping for the same with Lenglet.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have wanted around €12m.
Sport say Lenglet’s transfer to Tottenham is now being ‘advanced a lot’, and there seems to be some optimism this move will happen. It’s explained Barca ‘know they will have to give in’, in order to free themselves from the Frenchman’s wages.
That makes it sound like Spurs are set to secure the deal for closer to what they wanted.
