Tomorrow is El Clásico, and a rather important one at that with La Liga still up for grabs.
Saturday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport stretches things a bit to say there could be another El Clásico in the transfer market this summer, before accepting a move to somewhere like Aston Villa or Bournemouth looks likelier.
The man in question is Joan García, the goalkeeper who everyone should really be looking at for the next window. Espanyol’s star player is just 24-years-of-age and many feel he should be playing for the national team already, and that he surely will be soon enough.
Arsenal tried to sign him last summer yet offered less than his release clause (which fluctuates from €20-25m, with €30m possible if he makes that national debut) and failed with their quest. That’s something they may repeatedly kick themselves about in a few years.
Aston Villa have been linked repeatedly.
The prospect of the Spaniard replacing Emiliano Martínez has been suggested, with the Argentine a target for Saudi millions. It was also suggested that Aston Villa could sign García and loan him back for a season if Martínez doesn’t go.
Sport say a move to Aston Villa or Bournemouth, who have also been linked, would be an intermediate step and then García could return to Spain and sign for Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in the future.
Aston Villa and Bournemouth are said to be under consideration.
