Are you a Manchester United fan who wants your club to sign Tanguy Ndombele this summer?
Well, we have good and bad news.
First, the good news. Friday’s edition of L’Equipe reports the Lyon midfielder is ‘probably destined’ for a transfer this summer.
They then say the player is ‘coveted’ by several big European clubs, and the only ones they pushed forward are Manchester United, Juventus and PSG.
Just under a week ago, the same newspaper claimed interest from Old Trafford is concrete. However, despite claims in England that L’Equipe also said contact had been made or talks initiated, that simply wasn’t what was in the report and was just a case of making it more dramatic for impact.
Now for the bad news.
L’Equipe’s Friday article presents the player as having a difficult personality.
Whilst his talent is ‘undeniable’, the French newspaper say that ‘contrasts’ with the 22 year old’s persona: ‘In his own way, he is the symbol of a talented Lyon youth, whose inconsistency is confusing.’
The player’s behaviour, and sometimes seeming like he’s not entirely bothered, has become a ‘topic’ at Lyon, with the club reminding him there’s things to be achieved this season.
L’Equipe also state: ‘It’s unanimous about Ndombele’s huge sporting potential. But not on his behaviour. Where some see it as a way of concealing a reserved nature, his attitude seems haughty to others. To the point of feeding a certain incomprehension. As at the reception of Guingamp (2-1, February 15th), where the Rhone staff remained perplexed by the left ankle pain mentioned by the player, despite reassuring medical exams.’
Maybe this is all an elaborate ruse to try and discourage Manchester United and Juventus, leaving the door open for PSG. If not, and despite our over-active imagination it’s probably not a game, then it’s certainly something to consider before making a big offer.
