With the takeover of Anderlecht now complete, Marc Coucke, the new owner, can already start looking at next season, and what he must do to ensure this season never happens again.
His first port of call, according to Sport/Foot, will be address the transfer policy, which includes selling some players at the club to balance the books, and one of the first names on the list of exits, which will be music to West Ham’s ears, is Leander Dendoncker.
The 22-year-old was a target for the Hammers during the January transfer window, and, while no transfer ever took place, the interest was definitely there and put on hold until the summer.
Sport/Foot report Dendoncker will ‘certainly leave’ come the end of the season, with the club knowing they’ll be able to get a decent amount of money for their young midfielder, much like they did for Youri Tielemans last year.
The Belgium international has been pining for a move since his good friend left for Monaco, yet his exit was always blocked by the club, not wanting to destabilise the group too much with too many key departures.
Of course, a lot will depend on where West Ham end their season, as relegation to the Championship would certainly put an end to any hopes of signing Dendoncker.
David Moyes, the ball is in your court.
