Burnley’s Sander Berge has now emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United this summer.
Over the past few weeks, the Uruguayan and French media have discussed the Red Devils’ interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.
This week, the English press reported Manchetser United aren’t willing to meet PSG’s request of €60m for Ugarte. It was also said the Premier League side are looking at other options, including the Burnley player, and have made contact to sign him.
Nettavisen in Norway have relayed this and then share their take on the possibility of the 26-year-old ending up at Old Trafford.
The Norway international joined Burnley in August 2023, and clocked in 3,218 minutes from 40 games in all competitions last season. The Clarets have been relegated from the Premier League and a move to Manchester United would be a positive step for him.
That’s according to Viaplay expert Lars Tjærnås, who previously worked both as a scout and a coach. He claims Berge joining Erik ten Hag’s side would be ‘good for both parties’.
“Manchester United need a central midfielder with the combination of defensive mobility and the ability to pass opponents offensively,” he told Nettavisen.
“Berge needs a club and league at a higher level to develop, and I think he has a good chance of playing a lot at United. It would be nice and useful if the transfer materialised.”
