Bild say Freiburg could soon experience a ‘transfer hammer’ from Arsenal.
Caglar Soyuncu has been linked with the Premier League club in recent months and Bild have picked up quotes (from Turkish Football) of the player saying: “It is true that there is an offer from Arsenal. I hope I will go there. I really want to play in the Premier League, but it all depends on my club. Because I still have a contract here for three more years.”
It’s worth noting that quotes in Turkey are often paraphrasing, making a quote from information of a person’s position and thoughts.
Nevertheless, it’s creating concern for Freiburg, believe Bild, and probably some irritation.
Back at the beginning of May, Altinordu president Seyit Mehmet Ozkan said: “Caglar Soyuncu is about to agree with Arsenal. Arsenal asked us for information about youth development.”
The month before, the Turkish club’s manager had said: “I think Caglar will go to England at the end of the season. He came from our own academy and is now doing well in the Bundesliga. For me, he’ll go to Manchester United or Manchester City at the end of the year and be one of the best defenders.”
Altinordu would get a kickback fee if the defender moves, and those aren’t the only quotes of club officials talking up a transfer for the player. Bild say the amount is 25%, this may be why the club are talking up interest, trying to hype his value up.
The German newspaper quote the player’s agent Mustafa Dogru as saying: “I’m not surprised by the interest. Çaglar is a modern defender… I think the Premier League is ideal for a defender with his attributes.”
Freiburg didn’t want to provide Bild with a comment.
