Just over a week ago it was reported in Belgium that Anderlecht had shelved any plans to sign Matz Sels from Newcastle United. The Belgian club had been considering signing the goalkeeper, but wanted to know the player’s thoughts on a possible move.
Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reported that Sels failed to get back to Anderlecht, which made their mind up about the situation… a possible transfer was dead.
However, DH say it’s now alive again. Sels playing hard to get has worked and Anderlecht have reopened the file.
It’s not going to be easy, with Sels on wages at Newcastle which would be hard for Anderlecht to justify getting near. Fenerbahce are preapred to match the player’s wage demands, but Anderlecht will hope the lure of Belgium means at least something.
That’s not Anderlecht’s only problem. DH point out the Belgian club didn’t provide Newcastle with ‘gifts’ on the transfers of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba, dragging every last penny out of the deals. Therefore, it’s not thought Newcastle are likely to be especially helpful.
