What a fall from grace these past two years have been for Eliaquim Mangala since moving from Porto to Manchester City.
One of the most expensive defensive transfers in football history, the Frenchman has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and now finds himself far away from Pep Guardiola’s plans for the new season.
Like Joe Hart, a move away for the player seems to make the most sense if he wants to have a career built on playing football rather than sitting on benches, and a few offers appear to be on the table.
At least, that’s what France Football are saying in their weekly magazine, with the French media outlet reporting that both AC Milan and Porto would want to acquire his services.
However, with the Serie A side only wanting a loan, and Manchester City probably wanting to offload him for good, things appear to have hit a stumbling block, with Porto wanting the same type of deal.
As France Football say, ‘a step backwards is needed to go forward’, but it all depends how much money the ‘step backwards’ are willing to spend on him.
A loan just doesn’t seem enough for City at the moment. Things might change if nothing is sorted on transfer deadline day, though.
