On Thursday, we covered the press conference Mattéo Guendouzi had with Marseille ahead of the fixture against Montpellier, where he talked about turning down offers in January.
Following multiple stories about Unai Emery wanting the player at Aston Villa, it was quite obvious who the midfielder was talking about, and there’s hope a move could take place in the summer if RMC Sport journalist Stéphane Guy, relayed by Score.fr, is to be believed.
The Villa Park manager has previously worked with the Frenchman at Arsenal, and was the one to fully trust him after his early move from Lorient, and there was hope down the Spaniard’s end Guendouzi could bolster his midfield.
That never happened, as the France international felt it wasn’t the right time to leave, all the while leaving the door open for a move in the summer, where he could follow in the footsteps of Morgan Sanson, although with hopes of far better results.
What plays in Aston Villa’s favour, according to the aforementioned Guy, is that Igor Tudor isn’t particularly fond of Guendouzi, while we all know Emery is.
He said: “I know, from echoes close to Tudor, that he doesn’t have a high esteem of Guendouzi. Tudor thinks he’s a player who scatters himself, lacks intelligence in his work and in the discipline that the Croatian manager asks of him.”
