On Thursday, news from France suggested that Paris Saint-Germain are trying their best to sign Lucas Hernández from Bayern Munich.

However, his physical conditions and the price likely to be set by the Bavarians has led them to look at other players, including Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte, according to L’Equipe.

Once an important player for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, the 28-year-old has seen his game time reduced drastically this season, making just 22 appearances in all competitions after recovering from a knee surgery.

He played in the three games before the 1-1 draw against Brighton, but there are some questions over whether Laporte has a real future at Manchester City when he could be regularly playing elsewhere.

That’s why Paris Saint-Germain are interested, and L’Equipe explain that ‘the track is open’ for a potential transfer to happen if they decide against splurging on Hernández.

It’s not said how much Manchester City would want for their centre-back, but with him falling out of favour of late, and two years left on his contract, they aren’t likely to ask the world for him, and could even accept making a loss on the €65m they once pay Athletic Bilbao for him.

That’s just us musing, but there’s a reason why the Ligue 1 giants are monitoring his situation for a potential summer deal.
