Alexandru Maxim justified Garry Monk interest in him with a very good performance against Karlsruher at the weekend. Stuttgart won the Bundesliga 2 match 2-0 and have a good chance of promotion to Germany’s top tier.
It was a rare chance for Leeds United target Maxim, with manager Hannes Wolf not being his biggest fan. Wolf has repeatedly stated that Maxim needs to improve the defensive side of his game and intensity if he’s to be a regular.
However, Wolf seems determined to exclude Maxim and when he comes into the team and does well, that doesn’t then lead to a better opportunity in the next game. The Leeds target may now have a better chance of some games, but only because Carlos Mane is out for the rest of the season.
Leeds United have been repeatedly linked with Maxim, and Monk was also keen when he was in charge of Swansea City. It’s possible Wolf and Maxim work better together from now on, due to necessity, but a summer move still looks on the cards.
Speaking about his future after the match, Maxim was quoted by Sportal as saying: “A tough question. I will do everything for the club and its success until my last day in the VfB shirt.”
The hint that his future is in doubt is no surprise, and Leeds United are surely keeping an eye on the situation.
