Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has told the Norwegian media he’s now used to getting into difficult situations in the Scottish Premiership, like he did with Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor on Sunday.
Since returning to his home country for the international break, the Celtic player has been quizzed by a number of Norwegian newspapers following his altercation with the Rangers keeper during the Old Firm clash. Up until now he’s refused to elaborate.
This time speaking to Dagbladet, Ajer was again asked about McGregor seemingly kicking out at him last weekend: “That’s what can happen in the battle. It’s a tough place the Scottish league. I am very used to getting in these situations. That you can get into such situations, this can happen in football.
He added: “If he kicked – or just tried to get me – I will not comment. The most important thing is that we won 1-0. That’s what we’re left with. The most important thing was the result.”
Despite Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admitting McGregor was lucky to stay on the pitch, yesterday the SFA didn’t hand out a ban for the former Scotland international.
However, this doesn’t have seem to have bothered Ajer as he focuses on Norway’s clash with Cyprus tomorrow. The Celtic man seems content that Brendan Rodgers’ side picked up the three points against their local rivals, a win that takes the Glasgow club up to second in the Scottish Premiership.
