Tottenham Hotspur are in the picture to sign Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij.
The defender’s contract expires in 2023 and the renewal has been on ‘standby for some time’ and is ‘certainly not among the first on the agenda’ of the Nerazzurri.
That’s according to FcInterNews, who explain the ‘basis of the agreement’ was reached between two parties for a new deal until 2025, worth €4.5m per year. However, the talks have now been postponed because of the financial situation of the Serie A side.
This allowed Mino Raiola to look around for interest from elsewhere for his client. To date, the ‘most convincing’ contact has come from London and ‘precisely from Tottenham’.
De Vrij played under Antonio Conte at the San Siro and was a regular figure in their title winning campaign last season. The Italian is now at Spurs and ‘would gladly’ take the 30-year-old at his current club and put him in the three-man defence.
Apart from Tottenham, Barcelona have also knocked on the Netherlands international’s door.
Inter have long been targeting Torino’s Gleison Bremer. They would ‘sacrifice’ De Vrij for ‘no less than €30m’ and invest the money from his sale on the Brazilian.
There are no negotiations underway for the former Lazio man’s sale. With Tottenham and Barca in the picture, the report states their interest ‘could become something serious in the coming months’.
One to keep an eye on for the future, especially considering Conte would be glad to have De Vrij at Spurs.
