If the Portuguese press are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur really want to sign Adrien Silva. So much so they recently sent a club official to Lisbon to present an offer of ‘not more than’ €20m.
Of course Tottenham sending an official to a club to present the offer sounds a little strange in itself, but the whole saga has been. It started with an opinion piece on an English website, saying that, seeing as Tottenham have been linked in the past, this is a good chance for Mauricio Pochettino to get his man.
That made it’s way to Portugal and things very quickly snowballed.
Saturday’s edition of Record claims that, according to the Portuguese newspaper’s own information, Tottenham are ‘willing to make an effort’ to get closer to the €30m asking price.
Record are convinced, explaining that the first €20m offer was just somewhere to start negotiations, like a friendly insult. Now, things will get serious and Tottenham will dance to Sporting’s tune.
It’s unlikely.
