Tottenham Hotspur came forward to take Marco Asensio away from Real Madrid in the summer, reports Marca on Wednesday.
The attacking midfielder has struggled to get into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans as he’s yet to start for Los Blancos this season and has been restricted to less than 70 minutes of playing time in five matches.
The newspaper details the 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in the attacking positions. He is now behind Karim Benzema, Vinícius Júnior, Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Rodrygo and even Lucas Vázquez.
Asensio has also struggled to find place in the midfield following Eduardo Camavinga’s arrival last month.
However, Marca say the Spaniard wasn’t interested in answering the proposals received in the summer.
This includes approaches made by Spurs and AC Milan, who ‘were ready to bet heavily on him’.
Regarding Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, the report says they were ‘willing to give him star treatment in every way’.
However, the player decided against making a switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he wants to succeed at Real Madrid.
That being said, it appears Asensio’s decision to snub approaches from both Spurs and Milan hasn’t worked out well so far, and perhaps a door might open again in the January transfer window.
