Valencia have received a firm no from Tottenham in their initial attempts to re-sign Bryan Gil for next season.
That’s according to Marca, who say Antonio Conte’s side have other plans for the forward next season.
Gil joined Valencia in the January transfer window after a disappointing first few months at Tottenham following a move from Sevilla last summer.
He quickly established himself as a star under Jose Bordalas, with a series of impressive performances in their run to the final of the Copa del Rey.
They’ve been keen to keep him next season and working on the way to make that happen, but it seems Tottenham are not so keen.
Marca explain that Valencia have ‘contacted’ Spurs about another loan move next year, but the initial response has been ‘negative’.
Valencia chief Anil Murthy is said to have travelled to London a few days ago to meet with Spurs about a move but was told in no uncertain terms that Tottenham aren’t interested in it.
They don’t want to release Gil at the beginning of the market, and if they do, they want to send him to a team that plays in the Europa League or Champions League, so he doesn’t ‘depreciate in value’.
While the player is not a part of Conte’s plans, he does not want to devalue him to an extreme degree, given the club paid ‘a good amount’ to Sevilla for him last year.
Thus Valencia are currently out of the picture, but they will wait until the window is in it’s ‘death throes’ before trying to get another deal done.
That’s been confirmed by Murthy, who, when consulted about Gil’s possible return, told Radio Marca, “we will talk at the end of August if there is something to talk about”.
