With Harry Kane extending his Tottenham contract, Don Balon have to find a new Spurs star to play with. And that man is Christian Eriksen.
They go with a headline saying ‘100 million! The signing that Florentino Perez must close in a week’ and explain the Real Madrid president is under pressure to sign Eriksen before Tottenham also extend his deal.
The more reliable Madrid media have always talked down the idea of a swoop for Eriksen. That isn’t because they don’t rate him, it just that, as it was with Kane, it’s thought to be a transfer that would either be too expensive or impossible.
Even the media close to Barcelona talk down Eriksen moving there, because, whilst they’d quite like him to make the move, the finances and presence of Daniel Levy are hurdles considered too big to jump.
But Don Balon don’t deal with reality and say Eriksen knows ‘the Real Madrid train only passes once in a lifetime’. It’s claimed Tottenham have given their player a week to decide whether to renew or not.
Even that is unbelievable. Eriksen became a father for the first time a week ago and is currently with Denmark preparing for the World Cup, it’s unlikely Spurs would be handing out such ultimatums.
