Isco to Tottenham Hotspur links at the end of the transfer window were abound, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there was anything in it. The claims seemed to be feeding on themselves, and the potential excitement of a last minute Spurs move for Isco was understandably too much to be ignored.
El Confidencial, one of the more reliable Spanish outlets, said in September that Tottenham had been interested but the chance of a deal ‘evaporated in a short space of time’ because of Isco’s high demands, and Spurs answered ‘soon and negatively’ to what was being asked for.
Boosted by a call-up to the Spanish squad, when perhaps others were more deserving, Isco started for Real Madrid against Real Betis at the weekend.
His performance was raved about by the Spanish media, including Marca, and the two goals he scored in a 6-1 victory only helped to boost him further.
But that’s not all. Spanish newspaper AS get quite excited on Monday about the match statistics.
Isco ran more than any other Real Madrid player, covering 11.5km. Earlier suffering from suggestions he didn’t try hard enough, and wasn’t putting the effort in, Isco has now ticked all the boxes.
Isco to Tottenham may continue to be reported on, but given he’s happy at Madrid now, and they’re happy with him, there’s absolutely no reason he’d want to take lower wages elsewhere.
