Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reveal on Wednesday that AZ are increasingly close to securing themselves a replacement for Vincent Janssen, and therefore allowing the young striker to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Janssen has made his wish to join Tottenham very clear indeed and transfers between the Eredivisie and Premier League rarely get so strained. Transfer fees for moves within Dutch football are relatively very low, and so when Premier League clubs come knocking at the door it’s usually easy to reach agreement.
AZ have been determined to get themselves a good fee for Janssen and a transfer looks set to go through for something in the region of €20m.
The replacement AZ are working to bring in is the wonderfully named Wout Weghorst, a 23 year old striker currently playing for Heracles. He’ll cost them about €1.5m, underlining the low fees in the Netherlands.
Joes Blakborn, the player’s agent, is quoted as saying: “We now engage with AZ to discuss personal terms.”
Everyone could end up with what they want out of this deal, apart from poor Heracles, who may look further down Dutch football to buy a replacement for about £50.
Dutch fees will surely take a lead from France sooner or later, and go a bit higher.
