Tottenham on the ‘trail’ for World Cup midfielder, possible free transfer on horizon

According to a claim in the Italian media, Tottenham Hotspur are on the ‘trail’ of FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera.

Over recent seasons the Mexico international has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League but a move has never materialised.

Sportmediaset report Tottenham are showing an interest in Herrera ahead of the January transfer window. The London club didn’t bring in any new players during the last transfer window but could be active in the new year.

It’s reported Tottenham are likely to face competition from Serie A side AS Roma as their manager Eusebio Di Francesco is looking to strengthen his midfield in January.

Herrera was part of Mexico’s squad during this summer’s Word Cup in Russia, helping his country to the knockout stages of the competition.

The player is contracted to Porto until June 2019 and subsequently Tottenham could speak to him in the new year.
