Tottenham and Matteo Guendouzi is becoming the new Tottenham and Adrien Rabiot, and we kind of like it.

The defensive midfielder, whose hairstyle puts him in between the aforementioned Paris Saint-Germain star and David Luiz, caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino’s scouts back in November 2016, when Foot Mercato in France claimed the London side were ‘seduced’ by his attributes.

A year later, Sky Sports also jumped in on the action, which, despite it being from ‘Sky sources’, helped strengthen the French website’s claims.

Well, now we’ve had movement with Lorient rejecting a €5m bid from an English club for the 18-year-old, and while Tottenham aren’t mentioned directly, there’s every chance they were the club involved.

RMC Sport are the ones providing the information, explaining the Ligue 2 side are hoping to hold out for around €9m for their starlet.

A regular early on this season, Guendouzi has, since the end of November, disappeared from Mickael Landreau’s squads after the youngster turned down a contract renewal offer, which the club didn’t take well.

With his current deal running out in 2019, Lorient are said to be against a transfer for anything below €9m, and are expected to keep him out of the squad until they get their money, or he signs a new deal with them.

A tough stance, but football remains a business, especially when you’re a second-tier club.
