There’s been some rather bullish claims in Spain this week regarding Bryan Gil moving to Girona, with optimism the La Liga side can quickly get a deal over the line.

Thursday even saw claims that a deal is close and an announcement could be made in the coming days.

Tottenham have made Gil available for transfer given he’s out of Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Spurs. He’s been left at home as Tottenham go on pre-season tour and given time to secure himself a move elsewhere.

That has obviously encouraged Girona to believe they can get a deal done at a bargain price and a feeling in Spain that transfer negotiations would be relatively easy.

However, rather than racing forward to a conclusion things have stalled.

Journalist Nil Sola reports Gil wants the move to happen, but the situation between Tottenham and Girona is the same as it was two days ago.

Negotiations continue with the two clubs said to be discussing the ‘formula’ of a deal. That would suggest Girona could be looking for a loan deal.

Tottenham would surely prefer a permanent transfer so this one may end up as a loan with a mandatory purchase clause.
