Saturday’s edition of La Nazione newspaper reported that Manchester United have made a €60m offer for Nikola Milenkovic.
Jose Mourinho was said to have watched the defender in action for Serbia last week and was so convinced with the player’s performance that he encouraged immediate moves to be made on a transfer.
That happened, and the €60m was knocked back, but La Nazione say Manchester United aren’t the only side seriously interested in a deal, with Tottenham Hotspur ‘only a step below’.
Given the initial offer, and that it’s been rejected, it’s clear Spurs would have to break their record to sign the 21 year old for Mauricio Pochettino. It’s possible that a figure around €60m would be acceptable, but not in the January transfer window, with Fiorentina not wanting to sell midway through the season.
La Nazione believe Tottenham are keen because they’re set to lose Toby Alderweireld, and it’s claimed Manchester United are keen on him too, so Spurs could remove some of the Milenkovic competition by selling their own player to Mourinho’s side.
