Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen renewed his contract with the club earlier this year, which you’d be forgiven for thinking made him the highest paid Danish footballer.
Eriksen earns a little more than Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is on 30m DKK before tax. Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is on 16m DKK, and Middlesbrough’s Viktor Fischer gets paid 13m DKK a year, both before tax.
At the other end of Ekstra Bladet’s list is Brondby goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow, who earns 1.8m DKK before tax, which works out to be around £218k per year.
During the summer there were, quickly refuted, claims thrown at Eriksen that he was asking for a huge amount from Tottenham, and in relative figures it would appear that was nonsense. Indeed, there are many inferior players being paid far higher salaries in the Premier League.
