Tottenham star Micky van de Ven has revealed he’s gained five pounds in weight since joining the club, from all of the weight training he now does.

The defender has been speaking to De Telegraaf about his move to Tottenham and how much he is enjoying life under Ange Postecoglou.

The Dutchman joined Tottenham in a €40m move from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer and hasn’t looked back since, quickly establishing himself as a key player for Spurs and adapting to life in the Premier League.

He’s now a bonafide Premier League star and set to be a potential key player for the Netherlands at EURO 2024 this summer.

It’s been a year of transformation for him, including physically, as he revealed he’s been putting on muscle weight over the last year.

“While growing up, I had a lot of problems with my knees, because I became a long lanky person,” he said.

“When I had to turn, I looked like a tractor. But by training a lot, the speed came back. In recent years I have become physically ‘bigger’.

“In England we spend an incredible amount of time in the gym, which means I already gained five kilos of muscle strength one year at Spurs.”

A key part of Van de Ven’s success this season has been the fact he’s been playing under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

The Dutchman has slotted in perfectly into the Australian’s system, with the high line, forward thinking football that he prefers suiting the defender’s player’s style perfectly.

Indeed, it has allowed him to flourish and earn plenty of praise as a result, with him undoubtedly one of the standout performers for Spurs this season.

He’s certainly happy, lavishing praise on the Tottenham manager and the way that he thinks about football.

“I like the way Postecoglou thinks about football, his vision,” he added.

“We play from the back and as a central defender I like to get on the ball a lot. That we have a lot of space at the back is not a problem with my speed.”
