Tottenham star was ‘ready to leave in the summer’ despite signing new contract since

 

Few clubs in the world can boast having two goalkeepers capable of being number one, but Paris Saint-Germain do. Well, they thought they did.

At the beginning of the season, Unai Emery had a difficult choice to make, having to decide whether Kevin Trapp or Alphonse Aréola would be his starting goalkeeper.

Going for the German at first, Aréola then took over after four weeks, and hasn’t really moved since, although now many are wondering why the Paris Saint-Germain graduate remains in goal after yet another blunder in the 2-1 win over Lille midweek.

With a Champions League clash against Barcelona just around the corner, and Kevin Trapp injured, there’s a fear the French goalkeeper might get thumped by the MSN trio.

Yahoo! Sport in France actually wonder why Paris Saint-Germain didn’t plump on a better goalkeeper in the summer, with Hugo Lloris the ideal man for the job.

The French website claim the Tottenham star was ‘ready to leave’ Spurs last summer, and would have brought with him consistency and experience, two things Aréola lacks at the moment.

Considering Lloris signed a new contract four and a half year deal at White Hart Lane, pictured with Mauricio Pochettino and everything, back in December, we find it hard to believe the 30-year-old was looking for a way out.

Especially when Spurs had just qualified for the Champions League after a very promising 2015-16 season where they showed they could compete, and even beat, most of the so-called top four.

Currently second in the Premier League, nine points behind Antonio Conte’s freak Chelsea side, it seems staying was the right decision, especially with Paris Saint-Germain in a similar situation in Ligue 1 right now.
