Former Nottingham Forest and Celtic star Pierre van Hooijdonk has given his backing to Tottenham Hotspur forward Vincent Janssen. It’s expected Netherlands coach Danny Blind will pick either Janssen or Sporting Lisbon’s Bas Dost for their upcoming games, and Van Hooijdonk thinks the Tottenham star should start.
SoccerNews have reported on comments made by the Dutchman when asked whether Janssen or Dost should be Blind’s first choice. Van Hooijdonk believes Blind shouldn’t be worried about the lack of playing time Janssen has been getting with Tottenham because he’s always performed for his country. The former striker thinks the 22-year-old is better than Dost as a lone striker, and the fact he trains with quality players at Tottenham should give him an advantage.
“We should not be too concerned about the lack of playing time for Janssen. He has always done well for the Oranje. The specific qualities of Janssen leading the line, in addition he trains at a top level daily with Tottenham,” said Van Hooijdonk.
Janssen joined Tottenham in the summer but had to wait until last weekend to score his first goal from open play for the Premier League side. This should give the forward confidence, especially with Harry Kane ruled out with an ankle injury.
Janssen has usually performed well for the Dutch national team, and it would be no surprise if Blind gives him the nod over Dost.
