On Wednesday, the Italian press went a bit José Mourinho crazy following the announcement that he would be AS Roma’s manager starting next season.
The Portuguese had only recently parted ways with Tottenham, and that led to the idea that he might want to take a couple of players he got on well with to Rome.
The first two to appear were Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who are once again mentioned by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Thursday’s edition state the Englishman is one Mourinho ‘would like to bring with him’, while the Dane is ‘the favourite’ on the list of midfielders the manager would ideally like Roma to make a move for in the summer.
That’s not a lot to go on, admittedly, but it does paint a picture of where the former Spurs man wants to bolster his upcoming squad and the type of player he will be looking for.
Whether Daniel Levy agrees to part ways with either Dier or Højbjerg remains to be seen, and it could all depend on how amicably the split between the two was when the decision was taken by the Tottenham hierarchy to move on from the Special One.
