Tottenham Hotspur sealed a berth in the knockout stages of the Champions League after their 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Tuesday.
Having trailed for the majority of the game, Lucas Moura’s goal in the 85th minute helped the north London club progress to the last 16 of the European competition, with some help from PSV Eindhoven, who held Inter Milan for a 1-1 draw.
After Spurs’ result, Christian Eriksen spoke to TV3 Sport of Denmark and admitted Mauricio Pochettino’s side had some luck to make it to the next round of the competition.
“On one hand, we were lucky and we have to thank PSV for making it happen,” Eriksen explained, as quoted by TV2.
“We knew Inter were behind during half time. So it was nice to look at our bench after scoring and know that it was only 1-1 in their [Inter-PSV] match. It was some strange last five to six minutes, but in the end it was a good result.”
Eriksen also explained he had a trial with the La Liga 10 years ago and his past connection with Barca has made the latest experience even better for him.
“I was here and had a small tour ten years ago for a trial. It was nice, a cool stadium and a big club. And then it was a good result to bring along – it makes the experience even better,” he added.
The Spurs star has been linked with a move to Camp Nou on several occasions, while Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested in signing Eriksen.
His contract with the Premier League club runs out in 2020.
