As Tottenham Hotspur continue to get linked to Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, we get to see some updates on the player’s situation today.
Those are brought by RAI journalist Ciro Venerato, who on 1 Station Radio, today had some comments about the 25-year-old’s situation at the Serie A side.
According to the pundit, Napoli would like to keep Meret at the club, but Tottenham’s pursuit for his signing is the real deal.
“Napoli would like to continue with Meret, and in this sense we will have to sit down at the negotiating table and await developments,” said Ciro Venerato (via Calcio Napoli 24).
“In the event of a separation, which Spalletti and the club do not wish for, the Azzurri would turn to Vicario.”
Tottenham’s links with Meret have been going for months now, as the word in the rumour mill is that Spurs are looking for a replacement for Hugo Lloris, and so it makes sense for Napoli to be planning ahead, just in case.
The problem for the Premier League side is the Naples club are top of the Serie A table, so the goalkeeper may not find many reasons to leave the Italian side anytime soon.
Then there’s also the issue that Napoli aren’t an easy club to negotiate with.
It’s known that many side will try to sign Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia next summer, so it’s very possible that the Serie A club will do their best not to lose too may players.
