Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall has been likened to Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong, albeit more offensively minded.
Tuttomercatoweb cover comments from ‘observer’ Marca Palma today, praising the Tottenham youngster after his impressive performances for Sweden.
Palma was asked to name and talk about five young footballers who have shone during this international break and named the Tottenham man among his list.
Bergvall joined Spurs in a €10m deal this summer after they beat Barcelona to his signature and have immediately thrown him into the first team under Ange Postecoglou.
He’s already made his Premier League debut and was handed his chance to impress for his nation during this break as a result.
The youngster already made his debut earlier this year in a 31-minute appearance against Estonia and was brought back for this break in a new look, younger side for the clashes against Azerbaijan and Estonia.
He was only handed 18 minutes and six minutes in those games but managed to impress nonetheless, particularly in the first.
Palma didn’t miss that and was full of praise for the Tottenham youngster today, likening him to De Jong.
“Then there is the 2006 Lucas Bergvall, Swedish central attacking midfielder, 187cm, of Tottenham,” he said.
“For many the most gifted 2006 in the European panorama, in Sweden he arrived in the first team at 16 years old. Great ability to play the ball, high level vision of the game, elegance on the pitch, gifted with excellent technique and enormous versatility.
“In July 2024 he was bought by Tottenham who paid 10 million for him and immediately included him in the first team.
“Senior national team he entered in both matches played by Sweden demonstrating great mastery on the pitch. Reminiscent of Frankie De Jong but more offensive.”
