Tottenham signing Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis this summer would be welcomed ‘in a sense’ by the Spanish club, who seem to be expecting the deal to happen.

That’s according to AS, who say Betis are aiming to make the midfielder their next big sale and have Tottenham’s preferential option on him in their sights.

The newspaper explains that Cardoso is establishing himself as one of La Liga’s hottest midfielders after a handful of notable performances and a brilliant display in the derby win over Sevilla.

He’s a key player under Manuel Pellegrini who ‘destroys, links up and dangerously reaches the opponent’s box’ all in one.

His future is likely to be away from Heliópolis, particularly as Tottenham have a preferential option to sign him for €25m, established in the deal for Giovani Lo Celso last summer.

Betis would welcome this ‘in a sense’ as they’d make a major profit on a player who cost €6m, although that was for 80% of his rights. Either way, they’re due a tidy sum and they’d welcome a €25m bid from Tottenham in that regard.

They wouldn’t welcome losing another key midfielder, something Manuel Pellegrini has warned about, but the club’s coffers are ‘crying out’ for a revolution in revenue and selling Cardoso to Tottenham would help in that regard.
