It really looks like Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero could have a happy ending soon.

The latest update on the situation, now brought by Calciomercato, says the player is ‘one step away’ from joining the Premier League side.

The website writes that ‘new decisive contacts’ have been made between Fabio Paratici and the Serie A side, and the transfer ‘should go through’ for €50m plus performance bonuses.

The report says the operation is ‘in the final stages’ following the green light from Spurs president Daniel Levy.

Romero is said to have an agreement with Tottenham already, so he’s just waiting for the clubs to sort the final points, with Calciomercato sticking their neck out by saying ‘white smoke is expected this evening’.

This isn’t the only report from Italy who sound very confident about the move today.

This morning, TuttoMercatoWeb also claimed that ‘only the last details’ were missing for the move to be done.

That report also claimed the transfer will cost €50m, and the performance bonuses could reach up to €7m.
