As you’re probably aware by this point, Tottenham are working on a deal for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.
Jose Mourinho is seemingly keen to solve the age-old problem of finding back up for Harry Kane and Napoli’s willingness to sell the Polish striker and get his wages off the books has made it a possibility.
This week has been filled with talk of his agents flying to London for talks, Tottenham sending people to Italy to sort things out and basically, every indication is that a deal is on the way.
The situation is covered again in Italy today, with several sources all giving different takes on what is going on.
First, Corriere Dello Sport say that Tottenham have ‘seriously thought’ about a move for Milik and with 11 days of the window a deal ‘can be done.’
They say ‘friends of friends’ are working on the transfer and there are those who are working alongside the usual suspects to make it happen. Indeed, it is one of those people who flew to London discover the ‘possibilities’ and ‘what the will is’.
Milik, for his part, knows he won’t get football at Napoli and needs to be playing ahead of the European Championship next season.
That means he’s open to the move, but he’s hardly happy as he’s seen a move to Roma, in which he would have earned €22.5m over five years, go up in smoke.
Corriere del Mezzogiorno join in on the situation regarding intermediaries and name one of them as Fabrizio de Vecchi.
They are now working on a loan with a compulsory purchase option included at the end of it, and De Vecchi will travel to London today to discuss things further with Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Milik’s agent David Pantak has returned to Warsaw but is ‘ready to move’ for the ‘eventual decisive summit’ when that comes about.
That brings us to Il Mattino, who provide a very positive slant on proceedings.
They say that Tottenham is the ‘most likely solution’ for Milik although Fulham and Newcastle are also keen.
Spurs are at the front of the queue, and his agent is ‘working in London’ as they are the ‘most practicable route’.
They back up the idea of a loan with a compulsory purchase clause, stating Napoli are willing to sanction that if they can get €25m.
His ‘entourage’ – which probably means those intermediaries we’ve heard about – are working to ‘unblock the situation’ and it’s stated there will be ‘hot days’ on the Milik-Tottenham front.
The last to provide information on the case is none other than Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, who had plenty to say on the subject during his latest appearance on Radio Goal.
“Milik? Tottenham has been so interested in the footballer that last night Fabrizio De Vecchi, Pantak’s collaborator and international intermediary, arrived in London,” Calcio Napoli 24 report him saying.
“Tottenham is interested in Milik, but has to disband a few attacking players first.
“Then there is the recruitment problem, Milik has refused 4.5 million from Napoli and starts with a 5 million request.
“De Vecchi, in the next few hours, will have informal talks and will offer Milik to other teams, that could be Manchester City and United.”
