After a long couple of weeks of speculation surrounding the young goalkeeper’s future, Pau Lopez was eventually announced as Tottenham’s third choice goalkeeper on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old arrived on loan from Espanyol for the remainder of the season, and will undoubtedly act as Michel Vorm’s backup while Hugo Lloris is out injured.
The details of the loan are given to us by Mundo Deportivo on Thursday, and there is a buying clause in the detail, which will be automatically activated if the player reaches certain goals over the course of the next 12 months.
If said goals aren’t reached, the player will return to Spain, and Tottenham will have to pay them some kind of extra compensation, we assume for not making him play enough.
Either way, Spurs will have to send some money to Espanyol before the end of next season.
It’s all down to Pau Lopez to impress, and if he can keep Michel Vorm at bay and make some cup appearances, he might even get to stay in London beyond next year.
