With everything that’s going in the transfer window, some stories slip through the cracks at Sport Witness, and we end up finding them a few days later.
This is exactly what has happened with Tottenham’s alleged interest in Olympiakos centre-back Panagiotis Retsos.
The 18-year-old defender has been earmarked in his home country as one of the youngsters to look out for in coming years, and he’s already attracting strong attention from Germany in particular.
According to SDNA in Greece, a Spurs scout was sent last Wednesday to watch the starlet in action during Olympiakos’ Champions League qualifier against Partizan Belgrade.
Considering Tottenham were in talks to sign Juan Foyth from Estudiantes this summer, bringing in a young centre-back seems to be something Mauricio Pochettino wants before the end of August.
However, unlike the 19-year-old Argentinean, Retsos would cost above £10m.
According to Gazzetta in Greece, Olympiakos would be willing to sell for somewhere around €15-16m plus a percentage from the next sale, but that could also increase, we presume due to the lack of time to find a replacement if this drags out.
Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon are both said to also be after the Greek defender, and it’ll be interesting to see if anything does come from this interest in the coming weeks.
