With the future of Toby Alderweireld up in the air, it isn’t all that surprising to see Tottenham preparing for a potential future without the Belgian.
Top of their list, it seems, is Benjamin Pavard, as revealed by BILD on Wednesday, who report as an exclusive that a Spurs scout recently travelled to a Stuttgart game to watch the 21-year-old in action.
The young defender has been extremely consistent for the Bundesliga side this season, and recently earned himself a call-up to the France squad by Didier Deschamps, who handed him two caps.
However, if Tottenham are indeed interested in adding the Frenchman to their squad to partner the likes of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez in the future, it’ll come at a price.
In the same article, the German newspaper relay quotes from the German side’s director of football, who said: “If this summer, a club thinks it can buy for €30m, that club would be wrong. We wouldn’t even open the door to negotiations”.
Daniel Levy has recently shown a will to spend large amounts of money on young promising players (breaking the club’s transfer record to bring in the aforementioned Colombian from Ajax), meaning that quote shouldn’t put him off.
We’ll just have to wait and see if this scouting trip turns into something more in the coming months.
