Currently on loan at Saint-Etienne from Aston Villa, Jordan Veretout could very well return to the Premier League next season if the latest reports from France are to be believed.
According to Evect, one of Saint-Etienne’s more respected fan websites, a Tottenham scout was present at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Wednesday night to watch the Villa loanee play against Manchester United.
The 23-year-old played 68 minutes of the game before being replaced by Fabien Lemoine, and was unable to help his side turn around the 3-0 deficit from the first leg at Old Trafford.
That Mauricio Pochettino could be interested in Veretout for the summer isn’t exactly a surprise considering Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for the then-Nantes star back in 2015 before he decided to join Aston Villa.
Wanting to avoid playing in the Championship, he left Villa Park to return to France, and has become an important part of Christophe Galtier’s squad this season as Saint-Etienne are currently fighting for yet another European spot with the likes of Bordeaux and Marseille.
With Villa unlikely to return to the top flight for the 2017-18 season, and no clause in the loan deal allowing the Ligue 1 side to buy him permanently, a return to England is likely, and this is where Tottenham could step in.
Of course, it is worth remembering that this is all coming from a fan website, which, in places like Italy, sometimes are bound to get information from time to time, but it’s not something we would recommend full trusting just yet.
It’s worth waiting to see whether or not more comes out of this in the coming weeks first.
