Yet to fill the hole left by Mousa Dembélé’s departure to China, Tottenham might have found their man in Boubakary Soumaré, currently contracted to Lille.
Despite rarely featuring for the Ligue 1 club this season, with Christophe Galter preferring to start the more experienced Thiago Mendes and Xeka, the 20-year-old has been called up to represent France’s U20 this international break, where he played against Argentina on Wednesday night in Spain.
According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham were one of the clubs to have sent a scout to the game, alongside the likes of Juventus and Valencia, where the Spurs representative is said to have been ‘astounded’ by Soumaré’s performance.
Often compared to Paul Pogba, the Lille youngster could be the subject of a bid from the aforementioned La Liga side in the summer, having already tried to bring him in last year.
However, if Tottenham’s scout really was as impressed as Foot Mercato claim, then Valencia might have a new competitor on their hands, as Mauricio Pochettino will be demanding new signings from Daniel Levy in the upcoming window.
One to keep an eye on.
