With the European fixtures back in the calendar, Premier League teams will be sending scouts left, right and centre to look at players ahead of the summer transfer window, and Tottenham are no different.
According to Walfoot, Spurs will have someone present at Club Brugge vs RB Salzburg on Thursday evening, and there’s some interesting options on display for Mauricio Pochettino.
Unlikely to be extremely expensive, players like Brandon Mechele and Hans Vanaken probably should be on most teams’ agendas, as their performances have been solid.
The former, for example, has been called up to the last two Belgium squads by Roberto Martinez, and with Toby Alderweireld widely expected to leave in the summer, his compatriot could be good option to have next year, just behind Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen.
As for Vanaken, there’s been very little speculation about his future, which is surprising when you look at his stats over the past couple of years.
The 26-year-old midfielder has 11 goals and 14 assists to his name in 33 appearances this season, continuing his great form from last year when he bagged 14 and 17 in 48 games.
Such stats could make him an ideal replacement for a certain Christian Eriksen should the Dane end up leaving in the summer, as he has yet to renew his contract (expiring in 2020) with Tottenham.
We’re not saying that’s why Spurs have sent scouts, as Salzburg also have a lot of talent on display, like defensive midfielder Diadie Samassékou, but the fact Tottenham went to scout Club Brugge back in October could point towards the Belgian side being the favoured one.
The rest is just us suggesting who they could be focusing on.
