With the arrival of Cristian Romero pretty much sorted, Fabio Paratici can continue to focus on improving the Tottenham squad.

One of the areas he still needs to address is the right-back position, where Takehiro Tomiyasu, who can also play at centre-back, is now expected to play if he his signed.

The negotiations with Bologna for the Japan international have been ongoing for quite some time, but the pause button was pressed when the opportunity to sign Romero emerged.

Corriere di Bologna on Friday explain that with that now out of the way, Tottenham ‘remain in pole position’ for the defender, even if other clubs have made enquiries.

That being said, the Serie A side don’t intend to ‘wait beyond the start of the league’, especially since that would see them potentially miss out on Tomiyasu’s replacement, Arthur Theate.

We’ll have to see whether Paratici returns fully for this deal, or whether other targets are explored, but the general feeling is, if Spurs show up, that’s where the Japanese player will end up.
