Judging by the transfer rumours circulating in Italy on a near daily basis, Tottenham’s first meaningful signing of the Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo era will be Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japan international, currently at Bologna in Serie A, has been the subject of a first offer from both Spurs and Atalanta, but the general consensus is the Premier League side have the advantage.

That is what Corriere di Bologna are putting forward on Tuesday, explaining a ‘new attack’ from Tottenham ‘is expected this week’ following the €18m rejected bid.

This time, ‘the figure should approach €20m + some bonuses, which are needed to make Bologna sit at the negotiation table’.

While there was talk of Arsenal trying to wiggle their way into the saga, Corriere di Bologna state ‘Tottenham remain the favourite, closely followed by Atalanta, who have not yet given up’.

That’s promising for Paratici and Spurs in general, but until the versatile defender is in London with that shirt/scarf, there’s always space for twists and turns.
