It looks like Tottenham Hotspur could make a few millions in the January transfer window without even selling a player.
The explanation for that is today featured in a story from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, as they describe the financial situation that Vitória Guimarães are currently going through.
The club have the goal of making €10m at the start of the year, and that’s not something easy, as in their history, they only sold one player for over that amount.
Still, it turns out Vitória don’t really need to look far to see who could give them that profit, because O Jogo asked three different agents about which player could go for an interesting fee, and all of them named the same star: Marcus Edwards.
The former Tottenham player has been doing pretty well for the Portuguese side this season, with seven goals and three assists so far, and should indeed be their most valuable asset in the current squad.
The reason for Tottenham being brought into this is that when Spurs agreed for Edwards to leave for Vitória for free, they included a clause that would see them receive 50% of his future sale.
So with the Portuguese side looking to make a big transfer in January, the London club can just wait and root for a big move, as they’ll get half of it.
Edrwards is protected by a €50m release clause, and valued by Transfermarkt at €10m.
